Coyote in the neighborhood

Dear Neighbors,

There have been several sitings of a mangey looking, frail, small coyote in the neighborhood.  This animal has not been threatening or aggressive toward anyone who has sighted him. He is shy and runs away.  This morning I found him/her sleeping in one of the window wells under my deck in back.  He got up and moved away down the street toward Bluff.  He is definitely in poor condition and very thin.

I contacted Dane County Humane Society and they loaned me a live trap.  I will be setting it each night this week.  If I catch him, the Humane Society wildlife rehabilitators will try to restore him to health.

I am baiting the trap with wet cat food – very smelly and attractive.  The trap will only be set at night.  I will close it down during the day. Please keep your kitties in at night.  I don’t want to trap someone’s kitty!

I don’t have everyone’s email up and down the street so if you have a neighbor who lets their cat roam, please tell them about this.

I will let you know what happens. I hope we can save this little creature.

Thanks,

Kay Phillips
